CNG Lissner sale, lot 1903

This specimen was lot 1903 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $574.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO, Primera República. 1823-1863. AR Real. Zacatecas mint. Vicente Larramaga, assayer. Dated 1860 Zs VL. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Gem lightly toned brilliant uncirculated. Just a hint of patina over very lustrous fields. Highest graded for this date and only a few graded higher for the type. A superb coin. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, August 1981." This date is common for the type but examples of this quality always bring a premium. The type was struck at Zacatecas 1826-62, 1868-69 with assayer VL recorded for 1859-64.
