Mexico H3035-31229r.jpg

This specimen was lot 31229 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $1,468.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Escudos 1848 Mo-GC VF20 NGC, Mexico City mint. Choice Fine, an unflawed specimen of this very rare date, unlisted in Krause and Buttrey, and rated as 'Extremely rare uncatalogued' by Long, who only traced three examples. Only two specimens graded by NGC (the present coin and the one listed as Fine are in fact the same specimen), both of which were included in the Long census. Ex: Goldberg (5/2007, lot 4728 for $3,200). From The FoxLair Collection." This specimen is one of a series struck 1825-69 at Mexico City.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 381.6, Fr-77.
