This specimen was lot 21212 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Oaxaca. War of Independence. Cast Silver 8 Reales, 1812. NGC EF Details--Scratches. Darkly toned and with great detail to the devices, this issue, always encountered rather crudely, presents rather better quality than is generally seen, making it a superior specimen and one that should generate great enthusiasm." Numerous eight reales are attributed to Oaxaca in 1812, including KM 168 (royalist cast issue), KM 233 (SUD in copper and silver), KM 234 (SUD in copper and silver), KM 235 (shown here), KM 236 (royalist) and KM 242 (Huautla). This type is also kknown dated 1813. The year 1812 represented the peak of Morelos' success.
