This specimen was lot 43498 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence. Insurgent Coinage. Supreme National Congress of America. 1/2 Real, 1812. PCGS VF-25 Gold Shield. Our first offering of this type since we sold the David O'Harrow collection (Baltimore, November 2013, lot 21083). A little worn but all details are struck up. Lightly toned." The Supreme National Congress was the formal name of Morelos' Congress of Chilpancingo, which declared independence from Spain in 1813. This rare type of 1811-14 is known in copper (KM 209) and silver (KM 210).
