from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 24353

This specimen was lot 24353 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. War of Independence. Zacatecas. 8 Reales, 1812. PCGS VG-10 Secure Holder. Moneda Provisional. VERY SCARCE issue with the draped bust of Ferdinand VII. Crude strike as usual, toned." This type and its cousins (KM 189 thru KM 191) were issued 1810-12. Later, the royalists obtained better equipment and minted Ferdinand VII bust 8 reales (KM 111.5, 1813-22) in large quantity.
