Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70920

This specimen was lot 70920 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $456. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1876-Zs JA. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-61. An appealing Mint State example, this 8 Reales delivers a bright luster and wholesome unhandled details." The Zacatecas mint is tied with Guanajuato as the most prolific mint during the Republic and most of the eight reales struck 1825-97 are common, as is this one. Production for 1876 was shared between assayer JA (1874-76) and JS (1876-86). No varieties are reported in the SCWC for the year.
