from the Stack's Bowers 2017 NYINC sale, lot 6965

This specimen was lot 6965 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1876/5-DoCM. PCGS MS-64 Secure Holder. Tied with one other example for finest certified at either NGC or PCGS. A terrific example with beautiful Pearlescent hued toning." The Durango mint struck eight reales 1812-95 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; this late date is reasonably common in all grades. Assayer CM is listed for 1873-77.
