This specimen was lot 71214 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1876-Zs A. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-65. Finest of five examples graded by NGC. Rare assayer. Almost certainly the finest known. Superb Mint State with steel blue toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." This specimen is from a series struck 1870-97 at the Zacatecas mint. Assayer A is listed for 1874-76; assayer S is also known for 1874-86. While the 1876-ZS S is not common, the 1876-ZS A is very scarce, verging on rare.
