Stack's Bowers 2019 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72521

This specimen was lot 72521 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $156. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1876-Go FR. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-62 Gold Shield. A blast white example, this nearly choice piece features intense argent surfaces and brilliant luster. A real stunner worthy of an elite bid. From the Sonoran Sunset Collection." The Guanajuato mint struck eight reales 1825-97 and most dates, including this one, are common. An 1876/5 overdate obtains a slight premium. Assayer FR operated 1870-78.
