This specimen was lot 40333 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, August 2026), where it sold for $9,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Pesos, 1876/5-Mo B/M. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-63. Rare date. Finest and only Mint State of just two coins graded by NGC. Second and last year for assayer 'B'. From the Kirk Menczer Collection." The Mexico City mint struck this denomination 1870-93 and 1897-1905. Altho no individual issue was large, collectively this mintmark is by far the most common. No regular date is recorded in the SCWC. This example realized 8½ times the catalog value.
