This specimen was lot 4335 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 8 Reales, 1877-Zs JS. Cap and rays. Softly struck centers. Lustrous. NGC graded MS-61. The Charles Ruby Collection." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1825-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This date is common. Assayer JS is recorded for 1876-86.

Recorded mintage: 2,700,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
