Mexico 1877-Zs S 10 centavos

from the Mountain Groan Collection

The Zacatecas mint struck this ten centavos with this design 1870-97. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. Most dates are common and overdates abound. This specimen is a slightly better date.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, reeded edge.
