Ponterio sale 155, lot 6214

This specimen was lot 6214 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $97.75. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1877-GR. DP-Ca54. SCARCE. Lightly toned EXTREMELY FINE." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. Many of the early dates are rare but 1877 is fairly common. Mintmasters AV (scarce), JM (common), GR (slightly scarce) and EA (somewhat scarce) are all recorded for 1877.

Recorded mintage: 472,000 (all mintmasters).

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
