Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from San Luis Potosí is somewhat scarce. This specimen was lot 9217 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $218.50. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Potosi. 50 Centavos, 1877-PiH. Lightly toned, lustrous. EXTREMELY FINE-ALMOST UNCIRCULATED.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 34,000.
