Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42669

This specimen was lot 42669 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1877-Oa AE. Oaxaca Mint. NGC AU-58." The SCWC lists this as a fairly common date for Oaxaca. Oaxaca struck eight reales 1858-65, 1867-69, 1873-93 with assayer AE noted for 1865-90. Most of the later dates are obtainable.

Recorded mintage: 139,000, a fairly common date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.
