Stack's Bowers February 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72105

This specimen was lot 72105 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2023), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1877-Ga JA. Guadalajara Mint. PCGS MS-62. This wholesome specimen is awash in a frosty argent luster, and avoids the ugly marking that often common for the grade." The Guadalajara mint produced large quantities of eight reales 1825-95 and most later dates are readily available, including this one.

Recorded mintage: 928,000 (including assayer IC).

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
