Ponterio sale 155, lot 6341

This date was struck as part of the Guanajuato series of eight reales, issued 1825-97. It is common in all grades. Assayer FR (Faustino Ramirez) is recorded for Guanajuato 1870-78. The SCWC lists no overdates or varieties. The first example bears a large and conspicuous chopmark, unusual on an uncirculated specimen. The second specimen was lot 6341 in Ponterio sale 155, where it sold for $230. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guanajuato. 8 Reales, 1877-FR. CHOICE BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."

Recorded mintage: 2,477,000.
