This eight reales is one of a series struck 1827-93 at the San Luis Potosí mint. This date is rather scarce, verging on rare. Assayer MC is recorded for 1849-60. This specimen was lot 6442 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $460. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Potosi. 8 Reales, 1851-MC. BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."
