Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72086

This specimen was lot 72086 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $268.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1851-Do JMR. Durango Mint. NGC VG Details--Scratches. Rare date. Second of only two examples graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors. Ex: Jaime Varon Collection." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Durango mint struck half reales 1832-34, 1837, 1841-64 and 1869 and quite a few dates are rare. Assayer JMR (José Maria Ramirez) is listed for 1849-52 and all of his half reales are at least scarce.
