Heritage sale 3035, lot 31236

This specimen was lot 31236 in Heritage sale 3035 (Long Beach, September 2014), where it sold for $6,462.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 8 Escudos 1851 C-CE MS63 NGC, Culiacan mint. Choice Mint State and decidedly rare in this preservation: Long could not locate any examples and the present coin is the only example currently certified as Mint State by NGC. A most attractive type coin for this mint's issues. From The Law Collection." The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available.
