Mexico 1851-GC MP 1/2 escudo

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen was struck at the Guadalupe y Calvo mint in 1851, one year before it closed in 1852. Unlike the 1848 issue, the reverse shows the "Sonoran eagle" also used at Alamos, Hermosillo and Culiacan. This specimen was purchased very economically as the result a conspicuous file mark on the obverse, perhaps a bungled attempt to remove a mount.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.875 fine gold, .049 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 378.3, Fr-114.
