This specimen is a better date of a series struck 1869-90 at the San Luis Potosí mint. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. Several varieties are noted for the date; an 1888-Pi R/B (shown here), 1888-Pi/Zs R and a normal date. This date is common but scarce in nice condition.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 106,000.

Catalog reference: KM 406.8.
