The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1863Ga-FV, lightly toned Fine with all details bold and readable, small rim bump below the date. Extremely rare assayer for this date, and a decent original coin." The second specimen was lot 6308 in Ponterio sale 155 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $16,100. The catalog description<sup>[2]</sup> noted, "MEXICO. Guadalajara. 8 Reales, 1863-FV. Possibly the finest known of this EXTREMELY RARE date. Ex: Ponterio Auction #142, lot #452 where it hammered for $8,500. Normal weak strike in the centers, light toning. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." The Guadalajara mint issued this type 1825-95. Assayer JG is also listed for 1863 along with 1863/52, 1863/59, 1863/2, 1863/4 overdates but assayer FV remains rare. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1863Ga-FV, lightly toned Fine with all details bold and readable, small rim bump below the date. Extremely rare assayer for this date, and a decent original coin." The second specimen was lot 6308 in Ponterio sale 155 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $16,100.
