Mexico SB118-21186r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21186 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1863/2-DoCP. NGC EF-45. Another VERY SCARCE date as are so many dates from this mint. Somewhat weak in the centers but considerable luster remaining." Durango is a common mint for eight escudos but many dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-68; KM-383.3.
