Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Alamos is so rare that for many years it was listed in the SCWC as a counterfeit. This specimen was lot 9142 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $12,650. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Alamos. 50 Centavos, 1888-AsL. Extremely rare and the only example that we know of. Probably UNIQUE. Nice strike. NGC AU-50.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
