SB0123-42719r.jpg

This specimen was lot 42719 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1888-Mo M. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-65." This is a common date of a type struck at Mexico City 1869-97. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898.

Recorded mintage: 710,000.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM-403.7.
