This specimen was lot 21378 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $4,080. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1842-GaJG. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. An attractive example of this VERY RARE date with bright gold surfaces that showcase impressive detail over the hand and book and eagle motifs. The only example thus far graded by PCGS or NGC with no ungraded appearances in archived auction records. An important opportunity for the specialist." A half escudo of the Guadalajara mint, which struck this denomination 1825-61.
