Stack's Bowers 2021 NYINC sale, lot 24212

This specimen was lot 24212 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1878-Go SM. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-61. A delightful Mint State specimen presenting steely gray surfaces that are set ablaze with radiating luster." This date from Guanajuato is common along with the 1878/7 overdate. Assayer SM (1878-79) shares this date with assayer FR (1870-78).

Recorded mintage: 2,273,000 (including assayer FR).

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.
