Mexico 1878/7-Go S 5 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71128

This specimen was lot 71128 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $168. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1878/7-Go S. Guanajuato Mint. NGC MS-61. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Guanajuato mint struck this type 1869-97 and it is considered a common mint, tho this is a slightly better date. The mint was closed in 1900. This is only known with the overdate.

Recorded mintage: 20,000.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
