This specimen was lot 1376 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $2,530. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 20 Pesos, 1874 CH M. Chihuahua. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Cap and Rays above scales of Justice, dagger, and scroll of laws. Attractive orange-gold surfaces with just a touch of wear on the high points, hairlines in the fields, and a couple of very minute nicks on the edge. Well struck and a pleasing example, the 4 in the date is punched wide of the other digits. Choice About Uncirculated." The Chihuahua mint struck this type 1872-95 and is rather a difficult mint to find. Mexico City and Guanajuato are the most available.
