Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70406

This specimen was lot 70406 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1874-Ga IC. Guadalajara Mint. NGC MS-61. Variety with die style of 1873-74. An attractive example of this short lived die style with somewhat muted satiny luster and light peripheral tone." Assayer IC is listed for 1869-77; assayer MC, who also operated in 1874, is listed for 1874-76. The 1874-GA IC is common while the 1874-GA MC is somewhat scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.
