Stack's Bowers February 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74710

This specimen was lot 74710 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1874-Zs JA. Zacatecas Mint. PCGS AU-53. KM-377.13; DP-Zs58. A decently struck Crown with only minor scuffs and marks, some flashy luster remaining in the fields, and a splash of toning across the obverse." Assayers JA (1874-76) and YH (1868-74) are both listed as common for this date. The Zacatecas mint struck no eight reales 1870-72, striking balance scale pesos instead.
