Mexico 1874-Ho R 50 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 72256

This specimen was lot 72256 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1874-Ho R. Hermosillo Mint. NGC AU-55. Tied for finest graded by NGC. Well struck and lustrous. First year of issue for mint. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Hermosillo mint struck silver fifty centavos 1874-77, 1880-82, 1888, 1894-95. All the dates are at least somewhat better and some are rare. The 1895-H^O was the last issue of this denomination under the Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date for the mint.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
