This specimen is a scarce date of a series struck 1870-97 at the Zacatecas mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. The overdate 1874/3 is the only variety listed for this assayer, which is priced substantially lower than assayer “A”. This specimen was lot 8996 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 10 Centavos, 1874/3-ZsH. Lightly cleaned. VERY FINE."

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, .078 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.
