This specimen was lot 1394 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $6,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 20 Pesos, 1872-ChM. NGC MS-64." The Chihuahua mint struck this type 1872-95 and is rather a difficult mint to find. Mexico City and Guanajuato are the most available. Although production was substantial, many dates are rare. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare. Assayer G is also noted for the year.

Recorded mintage: 995.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .952 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-121; KM-414.1.
