This specimen was lot 1425 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $920. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Republic. 5 Pesos, 1872 Mo M. Mexico City. Bold eagle facing r. with snake in beak. Rv. Cap and Rays above scales of Justice, dagger, and scroll of laws. Lustrous and attractive surfaces. The 7 has evidence of a curl below its base, likely from a prior 6, and the 2 also shows repunching. Choice About Uncirculated."

Recorded mintage: 1,600.

Specification: 8.46 g, 0.875 fine gold, .238 troy oz AGW.
