Heritage sale 3032, lot 25450
Mexico SB818-21390r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21390 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Pesos, 1872-ZsH. PCGS MS-62. Bright throughout with several areas of strike incompleteness at the edges." The Zacatecas mint struck this denomination 1871-95. Despite the many dates of issue, the Zacatecas ten pesos remain scarce; no mintage was large. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare. Assayer YH is known for 1868-74.

Recorded mintage: 3,092.

Specification: 16.92 g, 0.875 fine gold, .476 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-138; KM-413.9.
