Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73045

This specimen was lot 73045 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $854. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1834/27-Ga FS. Guadalajara Mint. NGC VF-25. Very rare and unusual overdate. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The Guadalajara mint produced two reales nearly continuously 1825-62. Assayer FS served 1825-36. This overdate is not mentioned in the SCWC and the regular date is listed as common. Other mints include Zacatecas, Mexico City, Alamos, Hermosillo, Potosi, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Guanajuato, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated.
