This specimen was lot 72079 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1834-Mo ML. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-63. A lustrous and thoroughly toned coin, with a bit of strike weakness on the center of the eagle but still quite attractive." The half real was popular among the people for making small transactions but most of the Mexican mints regarded making them a nuisance in the way of striking eight reales. Only Mexico City, Guanajuato and Zacatecas took seriously government decrees to issue small change. This type was struck at Mexico City 1825-63 and most dates are common, including this one. Assayer ML is recorded for 1834-42.

Recorded Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 370.9.
