This specimen was lot 41344 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 1/4 Real, 1834. Zacatecas Mint. NGC Fine Details--Corrosion. A RARE date that last appeared in auction over fifteen years ago. Though corroded, as noted, it retains a clear date and a coppery brown coloration. From the EMO Collection." This specimen is one of a series of brass quarter reales issued 1825-64 by the "free and sovereign" state of Zacatecas.
