This specimen was part of lot 72381 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $390.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Octet of Reales (8 Pieces), 1832-45. Guanajuato Mint. Average Grade: EXTREMELY FINE. 1) 1832-Go MJ. 2) 1834-Go PJ. 3) 1835-Go PJ. 4) 1842-Go PJ. 5) 1844-Go PM. Concave wings. Very scarce. 6) 1844-Go PM. Convex wings. 7) 1845/4-Go PM. 8) 1845-Go PM. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Shown is an 1834-G^O PJ one real, one of a type struck at the Guanajuato mint 1825-68. Assayer PJ is recorded at this mint for the years 1834-42. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a "bit" (one eighth of a dollar), is common except in uncirculated. This is a common date of a common mint. Unlike the half real, where gem specimens turn up occasionally, one reales nearly always appear heavily circulated.
