This specimen was struck at the Guanajuato mint in 1833. This mint struck silver and gold coins 1812-1900, with one reales known for 1826-62 and 1867-68. This specimen has a "flat top 3;" "round top 3's" are also listed for the date. The issues of Guanajuato, along with Zacatecas and Mexico City, are generally considered common. The second specimen was lot 72354 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $244. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1833-Go MJ. Guanajuato Mint. NGC VF-25. Large eagle. Variety with flat top "3". Very rare variety. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors."
