This specimen was lot 72266 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $2,318. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1834-Ca AM. Chihuahua Mint. NGC VG Details--Environmental Damage. Local dies, one year type. Extremely rare date. Only example graded by NGC. Probably 5 or less examples known. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." According to the SCWC, this type was struck at Chihuahua 1844-45 only, making this an unlisted date. Assayer AM is noted for 1834-38. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a "bit" (one eighth of a dollar), is common except in uncirculated. Unlike the half real, where gem specimens turn up occasionally, one reales nearly always appear heavily circulated.
