Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Mexico City is fairly common for the mint; assayer M is rare. Numerous varieties exist; two overdates are shown here. The first specimen was lot 9200 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $690. The catalog description^[1] noted, “MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1874/2-MoB/M. Sharply struck. NGC MS-62.” The second specimen was lot 9201 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 50 Centavos, 1874/3-MoB/M. Sharply struck, very attractive. NGC MS-63.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
