Mexico SB118-21189r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21189 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $2,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1868/4-DoCP/LT. NGC EF-45. Overassayer not noted on the NGC label. A VERY SCARCE date that is not priced in KM. Considerable mint luster still remaining and quite a handsome example of this elusive date." Durango is a common mint for eight escudos but many dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a rare date.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .761 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-68; KM-383.3.
