This specimen was lot 34242 in Heritage sale 3106 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $1,860. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain: Ferdinand & Isabella gold 2 Excelentes ND (1476-1516)-G UNC Details (Edge Filing) NGC, Granada mint. A quintessential gold issue dating back to the era of the Spanish reconquista of Granada in 1492, and a much rarer type than those minted in Seville. A satisfying example when viewed in hand, with bold portraits and shimmering originality emanating from the rich, buttery yellow planchet." Isabel was queen of Castile 1474-1504; Ferdinand king of Navarre and Aragon 1479-1516; their joint rule dates 1479-1504. As the auctioneer notes, Granada was conquered from the Moors in 1492, so this coin dates from after that.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: gold, this specimen 6.93 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-128, Cal-707, Cayón-2914 (G and +).
