This eight reales is one of a series struck 1827-93 at the San Luis Potosí mint. This date is scarce compared to the later issues of the 1880's and 1890's but is not rare. The second specimen was lot 6440 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $431.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Potosi. 8 Reales, 1841-JS. Light iridescent toning. CHOICE BRILLIANT UNCIRCULATED."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
