This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen is a rather scarce date of a series struck 1869-90 at the San Luis Potosí mint, which closed in 1893. An overdate, 1876/5, is recorded for this date. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898.
