Mexico 1886-Pi MR 8 reales

Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70836

This specimen was lot 70836 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1886-Pi MR. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC MS-62. Sharply struck with a mélange of tone that caresses both sides." This eight reales is one of a series struck 1827-93 at the San Luis Potosí mint. Production for 1886 was divided between assayers LC (1885-86) and MR (1879-80 and 1886-93), both priced as common.

Recorded mintage: 3,347,000 (both assayers).

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
