the 1886-Cn next to an 1886-Mo

The regular issue ranged 1869-97 from Mexico City, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, Chihuahua, Culiacan, Guadalajara, Alamos, Hermosillo, Durango and even Oaxaca. Culiacan issued this type 1871-96. This date is scarce, probably rarer than acknowledged by the SCWC, and is notable for having the eagle die borrowed from the 2½ pesos. This eagle is visibly different from the standard eagle used at Mexico City (see the image at the bottom). The third specimen was lot 8925 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $258.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Culiacan. 10 Centavos, 1886-CnM. Mule. EXTREMELY FINE."

Recorded mintage: 13,000.

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, .078 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 403.2.
